Petrified wood mineral stones are actually fossils. They are woody stems of plants that are buried by sediments, protecting them from decay. Overtime, they are replaced by silica, calcite and pyrite. Usually details of the woody bark of the original plants, the cellular structures may be preserved along, forming unique inclusions in them.

Do note that over time some palm root mineral stones may form some powdery mineral salt deposits on the surface from the stone itself. This is a natural process due to presence of soluble salts within and the presence of moisture. Just wipe them off gently if they appear.
